Child Therapy
Child Therapy
“I’m worried about my child. Nothing I do seems to work.”
Is your child struggling with their emotions? Do they often seem anxious or sad? Have you noticed that they have difficulty at school, falling or staying asleep, or engaging with other kids? Are you feeling helpless, overwhelmed, or like you’re failing as a parent? Are you worried that your child won’t turn out “right?”
The parents we see feel like you do: They’re exhausted, frustrated, and worried. They have often tried a lot of different ways to help their child and nothing seems to work. Sometimes, the very way they try to manage the problem can create arguments and power struggles, which only makes the situation worse.
We can help.
Children often don’t know how to share what they’re feeling or what’s on their mind.
We work with parents and children to get to the root of what’s beneath their child’s anxiety, worry, depression, or acting out behaviours so that we can help them…and you…feel better.
To help kids, we need to speak their language and listen to what’s behind their emotions.
Our team of child therapists meet children where they’re at developmentally, and are specifically trained in modalities that help children express their feelings through play, art, or talk.
We create a space in which children can feel safe sharing and exploring their thoughts and feelings. Our therapists are feeling detectives and they help kids and parents become them too.
We work with children who are struggling with:
● Anxiety and worry
● Assertiveness
● Family relationships
● Friends and fitting in
● Grief and loss
● Immigration and cultural adjustment
● Parental separation or divorce
● Sadness and depression
● Self-esteem
● Stress and coping
● Trauma
● And more…
When it’s helpful, we also work with parents and help them become “emotion coaches” with their children. This involves helping parents become more aware of and manage their own emotions, as well as teaching them how to respond to their
child’s feelings.
Emotions are central to how parents and children relate. Sometimes as parents we’re responding to the emotion on the surface, only that’s not the emotion at the core.
Benefits of Child Therapy
Child therapy can help kids not only be able to identify, express, and cope with their feelings, but can also help them thrive and set them up for success in life. It can improve their academic performance, sleep, eating habits, and relationships. It can help them feel better about themselves.
When parents are engaged, child therapy can also provide parents and families with the skills and tools they need to feel close and connected with their children. It can help you hear your child’s emotions differently and empower you so you know how to respond.
Child therapy can help create more calm and ease in the family and home.
