Teen Counselling
Being a teenager is challenging. With the right support, it doesn’t have to feel so hard.
Does your teen struggle with anxiety or sadness? Are they often worried about how they’re performing at school, in sports, or with friends? Does their need to be “perfect” or a feeling of not being enough hold them back? Are they scared to make mistakes, embarrass themselves, or be judged? Maybe you’ve noticed that they don’t go out with friends as much as they really want to or they criticize or doubt themselves. You might also notice that they struggle to express their feelings.
If this sounds like your teen, we can help. The teens we see are often hard on themselves, scared of being judged, worried about not being liked, and feel like they’re failing in various ways. Some of them have difficulty connecting with their feelings, whereas others experience their feelings deeply. They often feel alone and that others, including their parents, don’t “get” them.
We pay special attention to helping teens feel heard and understood.

We step into each teen’s experience and walk around in it with them. We help them see where they get stuck and how to get out. We also help them uncover areas of strength and support these areas of resilience.
Similar to adults, we do not take a one-size-fits-all approach in our work with teens. Each teen is unique. We use their emotions as a compass similar to GPS: Their emotions tell us what hurts and where we need to go.
We work with teens 13+ years of age struggling with:
.
- Social anxiety
- Generalized anxiety (anxiety about multiple things, not just social situations)
- Assertiveness
- Self-esteem and self-doubt
- Navigating dating and social pressures
- Depression
- Stress
- Parental separation or divorce
- Adjusting to a parent’s new partner or step-siblings
- Grief and loss
- Complicated friend relationships and being targeted by bullies
- Coping with immigration and cultural adjustment
- Identity – figuring out who they are
- Body image
- Goal setting and planning for a successful future
What can I expect?
Teen counselling can help youth feel better about themselves and their relationships. They often leave feeling more confident and happier in their lives, and are able to cope better with life’s challenges.
We regularly hear our teens comment “Your therapy definitely isn’t boring…I didn’t zone out like I did in therapy before.” Our therapists are active participants in sessions, while also giving teens space to explore. Time after time, we hear some variation of the following from the teens we see: “This therapy felt like it really was about me and what I feel. It’s not like someone telling me what to do or think, but you helped me figure out what to do and think!” They experience a sense of agency in the process and feel more confident and capable as a result.
We know how hard it is to see your teen struggle and how it feels as a parent to not know what to do. Alongside you, our therapy offers effective tools to help set your teen up for success in life.
