OUR APPROACHES

We are an Emotion-Focused Therapy practice.

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based approach to treatment that is based on more than 30 years of research by leading psychologists Drs. Leslie Greenberg, Robert Elliott, Jeanne Watson, Sandra Paivio, and others. It is an effective treatment for unresolved feelings related to family of origin and influential others from our past (“unfinished business”), as well as depression, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, emotion dysregulation, low self-esteem, internal conflicts, and posttraumatic stress difficulties resulting from complex interpersonal trauma, including childhood abuse and neglect.

EFT is based on the belief that emotions are adaptive. Emotions tell us what is important to us and they are connected to our basic needs. Therefore, when we habitually experience too much or too little emotion, we become disconnected from the useful information they contain and we often don’t get our needs met in a satisfying way. EFT is designed to help people access, deepen, explore, express, transform, and more flexibly manage their emotions, so that they can have more of the emotions they want, less of the emotions they don’t want, and use their emotions as a compass to live a more satisfying, meaningful life.
